Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/2/2023
Spending over two decades in the state of New Jersey, it’s no secret that Martin Brodeur holds a number of NHL records, including being the all-time wins leader with 691. From mid-way through his career, we have a stick used by the Hall of Famer in his Vezina and William M. Jennings-winning season of 2003-04. A preferred CCM Heaton Pro model in Devils’ colours, the stick retains its original white tape over the knob and black over the blade, with “M Brodeur” over the upper shaft along with a date stamp of "21 mai 2003". “Car” for “Carolina” has also been written on the knob, and despite the stick being made near the end of the 2003 playoffs, the Devils didn’t play Carolina until the beginning of the following season (October 11th 2003), with the stick attributed to 2003-04. An LOA will accompany. Nice use is exhibited, with wear to the blade including a pair of rips to the blade tape, possibly from slap shots, with a bit of surface wear to the tip and marks to the front side of the paddle. There is also surface wear over the shaft including a few small nicks. A hologram from Steiner numbered “234097” has been placed over the front side heel, with the included LOA’s number matching.
Additionally, also included with the lot is a Martin Brodeur jersey that has been signed by the HOF goaltender. Made by Reebok with brand and "XL" tagging affixed to the inner collar and lower front hem, the all red garment has been decorated with the Devils team crest over the front as well as tackle twill sleeve and verso numbers/letters. Remaining in new-with-tags condition with said tags attached at the left wrist, Brodeur has signed the top of the number "3" on the reverse with a dark blue marker ink signature that displays well with just light bleeding evident. A Frozen Pond hologram has been affixed to the bottom of the number and is accompanied by a matching COA.
