Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/2/2023
A hard-nosed centerman who would rack up a grand total of 1498 penalty minutes over the course of his 624 games played in the National Hockey League between Quebec, Chicago and Hartford, Paul Gillis was no stranger to losing a bit of blood during a game from time-to-time. Pictured on the front of card #246 in Pro Set’s 1990-91 release, Gillis would be one of the best error cards (of the many included in the checklist) to be found in packs before a correction was put out by the company. Seen with blood dripping from his nose as well as the wrong jersey number at the bottom right (#37 and not his usual #23), up for grabs here is this lot of two copies of the infamous card that has both been freshly graded by KSA, earning NMM+ 8.5 and MINT 9 designations respectively. Both housed in KSA holders that remain in excellent condition, don’t let these pass you by!
It must be noted that the grading standards followed by KSA may not correspond to those currently employed by PSA, BGS or SGC. The outcome of an attempted cross-over of this piece through any of those services, then, would be uncertain and cannot be guaranteed.
