Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/2/2023
Frederick Arthur Stanley, 16th Earl of Derby, served as Governor General of Canada from 1888 to 1893, and he is best known for the donation of North America's oldest sporting trophy. This House of Commons day pass has been signed by the creator of the Stanley Cup. At 5" x 7 1/2", antique fountain pen script announces "Admit this bearer to the gallery of the House of Commons this day", with the date of "10th, February 1880". There is a War Office seal over the right side, with Lord Stanley signing beneath, with his desirable "Fred Stanley" signature. The signature is a nice large example that is a bit light, but displays beautifully. There is some discolouration to the pass, with a fold lines present. An LOA from Classic Auctions will accompany.
