Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/2/2023
Drafted by the Montreal Canadiens 1st overall in 1971 after what would end up being one of the most one sided trades in National Hockey League history orchestrated by then GM Sam Pollock, Guy Lafleur would go on to a career spanning 17 seasons and lead Les Canadiens to five (5) Stanley Cup championships during the 1970s. Offered here, is this copy of Le Demon Blond’s 1971-72 O-Pee-Chee rookie card that has been graded ENM 6 by KSA. Displaying with good colour albeit with some toning, the image of the young phenom is a bit off-center right-to-left on the front and left-to-right on the reverse some wear/light dings present in a fairly uniform state at all four corners. Foreshadowing the career that “The Flower” would have, the reverse of the card states that “Guy will be a superstar”, a statement that came true as Lafleur would become one of the greatest in Canadiens history over the course of his career. Nice prediction, O-Pee-Chee. Displaying with small handful of scratches and light scuffs to speak of over both sides of the KSA holder, we have no doubt that our lucky winning bidder will enjoy holding and beholding this excellent piece.
It must be noted that the grading standards followed by KSA may not correspond to those currently employed by PSA, BGS or SGC. The outcome of an attempted cross-over of this piece through any of those services, then, would be uncertain and cannot be guaranteed.
