Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/2/2023
Fascinating, alluring and riveting are William Paterson V145-1 hockey cards, with the issue's history, it's incredible lineup and the haunting images all contributing to the mystique and desirability. Hobbyists with experience are aware that cards could be collected and exchanged (a full 40-card set) for a pair of hockey skates, with the card of Bert Corbeau short-printed so as to lessen the number of prize redemptions. Up for grabs here, is this group totaling twenty-three (23) of the desired 1923-24 V145-1 specimens with fourteen (14) having been trimmed. Starting with the trimmed offerings, the group is led by examples of HOFers Aurele Joliat and Georges Vezina with the other 12 sporting the names of Eddie Gerard, Shorty Green, Red Green, Goldie Prodgers, Leo Reise, Ken Randall, Billy Burch, Jesse Spring, Eddie Bouchard, Mickey Roach, Chas Fraser and Corbett Denenny. All trimmed on their left and right edges with average dimensions of approx. 1 ¾” x 3 ¼”, many show creases, the heaviest being on the example of Eddie Gerard, as well as some soiling/staining while the cards of Joliat and Vezina appear to be the nicest of the bunch. For the remaining nine (9) cards that haven’t meet the cruel fate of scissor blades, examples include Harry Helman, John Ross Roach, Billy Burch, Eddie Bouchard, Leo Reise (x2), Corbett Denenny, Ken Randall and Goldie Prodgers. All in a condition range of G to VG, three (3) of the cards (Denenny, Randall and Prodgers) have been marked on the back in dark fountain pen.
