Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Winter 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/1/2023
From the dawning of the hockey and lacrosse card era and when several athletes excelled at multiple sports comes this stash of C59 lacrosse cards, all of them having been removed from a scrapbook. With however no back damage (paper loss) and no real signs of having been pasted are three dozen, including most of the key contributors. None is more important than Hockey Hall of Famer Edouard “Newsy” Lalonde, represented by two different albeit lower grade examples; #97 is crease-free and shows him in his “Nationale” uniform but has significant paper loss, while Newsy is with Vancouver on card #100, (G, with subtle warping). Other hockey HOFers are 16-Tommy Gorman (minor paper loss – reverse edges), 18-Bouse Hutton (VG+) and 90-Joseph Cattarinich (sizeable paper loss), while leading the other “leading players” are men who are inducted into some type of Hall of Fame; without back damage are 20-Powers, 22-Butterworth, 32-Degan, 34-Phalen, 56-Gifford, 65-Feeney, 67-Murton, 70-Felker, 76-Querrie and 85-Jeff Malone, with 64-Rennie (back damage) also notable. The vast majority of the remainder (all but six) present well with no obvious/unsightly creasing, with varying degrees of corner wear and some intermittent slightly warped examples also observed. A thought-provoking trip back in time is what the high bidder will have with these charmers.
