A splendid opportunity to acquire nearly half of O-Pee-Chee’s 1939-40 issue presents itself here, with some of the set’s key cards of Hockey Hall of Famers found within the grouping that includes 47 of the 100 cards that make up a complete set. Featuring black and white photos displayed on cardstock that measured out to 5” x 7” each, the starter set is led by the examples of names such as 2-Broda (HOF), 4-Drillon (HOF), 6-Apps (HOF), 10-Horner (HOF), 14-Shriner (HOF), 17-Smith (HOF), 20-Jackson (HOF), 34-Coulter (HOF), 35-Smith (RC – HOF), 36-Patrick (HOF), 37-Kerr, 39-Colville (HOF) and 42-Cain. Mostly found to be in the condition range of VG to VG-EX after inspection, corner/edge wear/dings and the odd light cease are the most commonly seen flaw while the likes of Broda, Drillon, Horner, Shriner, Smith, Jackson, Coulter, Smith, Patrick, Kerr, Colville and Cain also show some light surface stains as well. For the rest of the included cards, the examples of 1-Hamilton (creased and stained), 3-Kampman (RC – light stains), 5-Davidson (bottom left corner crease and stains), 8-Metz (RC – creases and light stains), 9-Kelly (corner crease and light stains), 11-Stanowsky (RC – bottom right corner crease and light stains), 12-Chamberlain (stains), 13-McDonald (stains), 15-Taylor (RC – light stains over the reverse), 16-Marker (crease and light stains), 18-Chapman (corner creases and stains), 19-Armstrong (couple of light stains), 21-Boll (light stains and a small corner crease), 23-Lorraine (stains), 24-Drouin (light stains), 25-Gagnon (stains), 27-Mondou (stains/residue, small tear and corner crease along the bottom), 28-Bourque (RC – light stains and a light corner crease on the reverse), 29-Getliffe (RC – corner crease, scratches on reverse and light stains), 30-Wentworth (light stains), 31-Haynes (stains and a light corner crease), 32-Bushwell (stains), 33-Heller (stains and a light corner crease top left), 38-Patrick (RC - light stains and small corner creases at left side), 40-Portland (RC – stains and light crease and an edge ding left edge), 41-Hollett (light stain and corner crease), 43-Bruneteau (stains on reverse), 44-Desilets (light stains on reverse and a moderate corner crease), 45-Marsh (stains on reverse), 46-Dahlstrom (RC – light stains), 47-Karakas (very light stains on reverse), 48-Thoms (light stains and right side corner creases), 49-Wiebe (light stains and a corner crease) and 50-Gottselig (stains and a light crease) are present and are largely seen as being in the grade ranges of G to VG and VG to VG-EX with the same common flaws being observed as listed above with the group of headliners that are included.
