Celebrating two of the greatest to ever suit up for the New York Rangers, we offer this jersey worn by Rangers forward, Fredrik Sjöström, during the first period on February 22nd, 2009, when the Rangers retired the numbers of Andy Bathgate and Harry Howell to the rafters of Madison Square Garden. Made by Reebok, a size “56” flag tag is affixed to the inner collar, showing Sjostrom’s number “20” handwritten in black ink, while crests for Reebok and the NHL decorate the reverse neck line and hem respectively. The neck of the vintage style tie-neck garment is decorated with the familiar “Rangers” diagonally down the chest in red-over-white drop-shadow tackle twill while the Bathgate/Howell retirement night patch resides over the right shoulder. The sleeves and verso sport Sjostrom’s number “20” in matching style with “Sjostrom” sewn on top of the affixed arched matching nameplate. Worn in just the first period of play, the jersey shows no obvious signs of game-wear but does display some stains, not associated with game-use, over the front and lower hem. Of note, the fight strap found on the interior has had a number “1” penned on its underside to denote the jersey as being from the first period. A MeiGray tag numbered “F09576” is sewn inside the rear hem and according to their population report, the jersey is a “Blue – Andy Bathgate/Harry Howell Night (Period 1)” specimen. A matching LOA will accompany the piece.
