Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Winter 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/28/2023
The assistant secretary of the Winnipeg Victorias for a number of seasons, G.H. Stead was presented with this high quality tobacco humidor by the club in 1915, possibly for the 25th anniversary of the Victorias (the club was formed in 1890), and it is accompanied by the matching season 1914-15 Winnipeg Victorias cabinet photo. Sparing no expense, the humidor is of the highest quality of the day and while it shows use with traces of tobacco inside, it remains in stunning near mint condition. The engraving plaque atop the lid reads "G.H. Stead - from Victoria Hockey Club 1915". The cabinet photo is approx 16" x 19 1/2", and it shows light wear with some staining, but presents beautifully, with the period frame at full dimensions of 18" x 22". This is the only such humidor Classic Auctions has ever handled or seen. From the Brent Sobie antique hockey and baseball collection.
