Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Winter 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/28/2023
Somewhat of a mystery, possibly picturing both "senior" and "junior" or "seconds" squads due to the number of players, this full format 1899-1900 photograph of the Winnipeg Hockey team includes HOFer Jack Marshall and netminder Art Brown of the Stanley Cup champion Winnipeg Victorias. Marshall is wearing the jersey of the "Winnipegs", his first senior club, before moving on to the Winnipeg Victorias in 1900-1901. At approx 12 1/2" x 16", the image is crisp and well detailed, with Marshall visible in the back. Framed to full dimensions of approx 16 1/2" x 20", the photo survives in beautiful condition, with wear to the period frame. 19th century photos of historic teams with HOFers rarely surface, and this is the only example of this image Classic Auctions has ever seen or handled. From the Brent Sobie antique hockey and baseball collection.
