One of the greatest players to ever play the game and the only player that could be compared with the likes of Wayne Gretzky during the 1980s and 1990s, Mario Lemieux would retire for the first time after the 1996-97 season due to the wear and tear on his body, but return to the game in December of 2000. Capturing the return and subsequent moments after it, is this set of five (5) cards from Topps’ 2001-02 release are these “Mario Returns!” limited-edition cards that have all been hand signed by “Mario The Magnificent”. Each signed at the bottom with a Lemieux’s beautiful signature in crisp blue ink, all the autographs display without issue. All graded by Beckett, four of the five included cards have earned MINT 9 designations with the last coming in at a NM-MT+ 8.5. All the cards have had their autographs graded as well, with all five earning perfect 10 marks from the graders at Beckett, with the number proudly displayed on the label at the top of the holder. All featuring subgrades, none fall below the high-grade number of 8.5. Furthermore, each card is hand serial numbered on the reverse out of /66 in the same blue ink the autographs on the front have been penned in, with the cards found here serial numbered “53/66”, “7/66”, “44/66”, “1/66” and “10/66” respectively. All housed in Beckett holders, they remain in good condition with only light scratches and/or scuffs worth noting.
