The first European-trained player to win the Hart Memorial Trophy, Sergei Fedorov is widely regarded as one of the modern era’s most talented players, with three Stanley Cup championships won along with appearances at six NHL All-Star Games. First Russian player to reach 1,000 NHL points and currently the head coach of CSKA Moscow in the KHL, offered here is this lot featuring a stick used by Fedorov during his rookie era years with the Detroit Red Wings plus a pair of gloves singed by the 2015 Hockey Hall of Fame inductee. Starting with the stick, a Louisville TPS made piece of lumber that has "Fedorov" stamped to the upper shaft, his famed number "91" is also present in the same area, penned to the stick in black marker ink. Retaining Sergei's original tape job of ribbed white over the shaved handle/knob and blade, the stick displays with excellent game use including numerous dark marks throughout its entirety, with the heaviest concentration being found over the lower shaft, heel and both sides of the blade tape. Also exhibiting additional wear in the form of other red and white coloured board and post paint marks plus a handful of dings and abrasions, there is very light wear to the bottom edges of the blade in the untaped areas and a minuscule crack in the toe as well that is worth mentioning for accuracy.
For the gloves, Cooper made gauntlets in Detroit's familiar red and white colours, Cooper logos have been screened over the vinyl cuffs while a fabric patch has been sewn to the inside of each wrist in the same areas. Appearing to having used similar models in his first few years in the National Hockey League before switching to Nike full-time during the 1995-96 campaign, photos show him as late as 1995 wearing a similar model with slight differences, including having "Fedorov" identifiers over the wrists, but no photos could be located showing Sergei wearing this exact model. Signed by the Russian born superstar over the cuff of each glove with black marker ink signatures that display without issue, both gloves show use via stick marks and rubbing to the palms while some of the stitching on the outside of the pointer finger of the right glove has let out exposing the interior foams. Of note, because we cannot locate a picture of Fedorov using this exact model and because we cannot be sure if the use exhibited was from Fedorov or someone else, the gloves are being sold only as signed gloves and not game worn. Overall, a solid pairing of items either used by or attributed to Fedorov during his first few years in the National Hockey League.
