Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Winter 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/28/2023
Too cool for school, as how many times did someone skip to sit on one of these bleacher seats at venerable Yankee Stadium to watch their Bronx Bombers take on all comers, whether it be during the regular season or in the cool, crisp air of playoffs and World Series. This two-seat bench, marked as seat numbers 4 and 5, measure 51" in length and 14" high, was removed during the two-year Stadium closure for renovations which began in September of 1973. Roughly 1/3 of the bleacher seats were removed at that time, while the Yanks were hard at work at cross-town Shea Stadium. A plaque has been placed on top reading "Yankee Stadium, The House that Ruth Built, -50th-, Anniversary 1923-1973, Bronx, N.Y.", and marks and nicks are scattered about, not only from the number of patrons who sat on these over the years, but maybe from the odd home run ball hit by Maris, Mantle, Jackson, Munson and the rest. We should also mention that due to the size and/or weight, special shipping arrangements may be required.
