Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2024

Registering six 100-point seasons throughout his Hall of Fame career, Joe Sakic possessed one of the greatest wrist shots in the game, and earned a number of awards including the Hart Memorial, Conn Smythe and Lady Byng on top of two Stanley Cups. Moving with the Quebec Nordiques to Colorado for the beginning of the 1995-96 season and winning his first Stanley Cup in the team's first season in "The Mile High City" offered here is this pair of gloves worn by "Burnaby Joe" circa the 1999-2000 season. Easton Z-Air model mitts in a simple black and white colourway, "Easton" is printed over the cuff of each glove while a size of "13 1/2" is found on the inside portion of each as well. Also showing rubberized "Air" logos in the wrist guards and backside of the hands, the gloves are void of any Sakic identifiers except for a silver ink number "19" that has been penned into the inside of each wrist. Of note, the penmanship style matches what is seen on other pairs of Sakic gloves that have come to market in the past as well as what is seen penned on Sakic's shoulder pads in Getty Image #161094865. Said by our consignor to have been acquired directly from the team, the gloves show just light wear via some rubbing on each palm, which is heaviest on the right one, as well as a couple of small marks/scuffs on the outside of each. Of note, it is not clear in what exact capacity these were worn by Sakic as photos from the 1999-2000 season show him wearing a similar model that is void of some of the logos printed over the outside of each and with longer cuffs.
