Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/2/2023
Displayed on the front wearing the first sweater and logo in the history of the Montreal Canadiens franchise, it is the team first goalie, Joseph Cattarinich, that is seen over the front of this copy of his first-year cardboard that is part of the famed 1910-11 Imperial Tobacco C56 release. Card #16 in the series and inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1977 as a builder, Cattarinich didn’t last long in the Habs crease, recommending the team sign Georges Vezina and offering to step aside after the latter so impressed him in a Montreal-Chicoutimi exhibition game. Having earned a mark of VG-EX 4 after being recently inspected from the graders at PSA, the card offered here retains excellent colours and pleasing centering while showing light even toning over both sides, some marks at the left edge and light touches of wear to all four corners. A wonderful card housed in a PSA holder that shows just a couple of light scratches over both sides, don’t let your vintage collection go without this one!
