Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Winter 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/28/2023
The coveted rookie card of the great Maurice Richard and those of five fellow Hall of Famers who led hockey experts over the years to rate the 1951-52 Detroit Red Wings as one of the most potent/dominant teams in NHL history lead this tempting assembly of ’51-52 Parkies. Recently inspected by PSA, rookie cards of Gordie Howe, Terry Sawchuk and Alex Delvecchio received VG-EX 4 verdicts, while a small subtle crease sent similarly-looking cards of Richard, Ted Lindsay and Red Kelly to VG 3. Although there are some condition issues among the raw rest to get to, we’re pleased to report that the majority (some 70 examples) either mirror or slightly edge the slabbed contingent, their crease-free, thin, crisp state, their rich original colors and (especially) clean, unblemished surfaces appreciated/attractive attributes. Among the lesser lights are seven Canadiens, including 1-Lach, 3-Bouchard RC, 14-Geoffrion RC and 15-McNeil RC, that have evidence of once having been glued, while 15 others are below VG due to a crease or creases and/or more pronounced corner wear. The group includes RCs of 7-Johnson, 10-Harvey, 37-Gadsby, 76-Rollins and 105-Conacher, as well as 48-D. Bentley and 75-Broda, and eight commons. A VG-in-appearance example of 52-The Winning Goal is affected by a crease (lower left corner region) that breaks the surface. Always meriting ample consideration are complete ’51-52 Parkhurst sets, with this appealing gathering sure to do just that. No scratches to the new PSA holders are present.
