Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Winter 2023

The youngest winner of the Vezina Trophy for best goaltender as an 18-year-old rookie in 1984, Tom Barasso is the youngest NHL netminder to ever be awarded the Calder Memorial Trophy as well. The Boston native also backstopped the Pittsburgh Penguins to a pair of consecutive Stanley Cup championships, in 1991 and 1992. Hailing from his successful time with the Pens in the mid-1990s we offer this glove issued for use by Barrasso. Using this model specifically during the 1995-96 campaign, our consignor, who worked at Bauer in their goalie department, was given this glove by Tom to replicate for his new Bauer mitts in the late-1990s. A Heaton made glove in the Penguins black and white colours with silver accents, tagging is affixed at the wrist along with an additional wrist pad that is fastened into place with Velcro. In excellent condition and showing no obvious signs of wear, the Heaton logo along with “Made in Canada” are embroidered into the back of the wrist with black marker lines seen on the outside of the area, presumably for custom modifications requested by Barrasso from Bauer.
