Having already achieved legendary status among Boston athletes at the time this highly desirable Boston Bruins captain’s jersey was worn, Ray Bourque led the Beantowners to the Stanley Cup playoffs in each of his first 17 NHL seasons, with the venerable superstar the club’s all-time recorder holder for goals, assists and points by a defenceman. Up for grabs here, is this jersey worn by the HOF defenseman during the 1997-98 season. Made by Starter, brand and Center Ice Authentic Collection labeling are sewn inside the inner collar above a size “56-R” patch that is also affixed. Decorated over the front with a Bruins team crest that features partially embroidered details, the distinguished captain’s “C” that Bourque wore for 15 seasons is affixed over the left breast while matching wordmark alternate logo patches are seen residing over each shoulder as well. Ray’s well known “77” has been sewn to the sleeves and verso in dual-layer tackle twill numerals with “Bourque” spelt out in matching style across the affixed matching nameplate. Displaying light but good game wear, stick marks are seen over both sleeves, the left shoulder, left collar area, behind the right shoulder and at the back of the right armpit while board burns are observed over the left elbow area and left cuff. Despite missing the commonly found Custom Crafted team stamp on the interior rear hem, the jersey has been photo-matched with Getty Image #379918 and #307993 (April 11th, 1998 vs New Jersey) to the dark stick marks over the “Bruins” patch on the left shoulder and in between the left sleeve numbers. Additionally, Bourque has signed the jersey on the reverse between the numbers with a large black ink signature that displays without issue. From Ray Bourque's personal collection, his signed LOA will accompany.
