Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Winter 2023

While not comprised exclusively of high-grade examples but mighty nice overall, these cards from Topps’ unique 1980-81 set largely present in the EX-MT to NM range for the vast majority of the 264-card checklist with a few EX+ vicinity examples also featured. Remaining unscratched, the players’ names on the front of the cards, as well as information on team and league leader cards, are covered in black and only visible after a coin or something else was rubbed over the blackened area. Loaded with rookies, card #140 of Ray Bourque leads the way, displaying with pleasing centering and falling in that aforementioned EX-MT to NM range in our books. Other key rookies include both #67 Michel Goulet and #195 Mike Gartner in similar conditions as the Bourque. Led in value by a plethora of second year Gretzky examples including his second year card #250, other cards featuring The Great One include #3 (record breaker), #87 (all-star), #162 (assist leader), #163 (scoring leaders) and #182 (Oilers checklist) with all falling in the EX-MT to NM range. The checklists, both unmarked, once again fall in area of EX-MT.
