Hailing from the mid-to-late years of a decade that saw the Boston Bruins, Philadelphia Flyers and Montreal Canadiens dominate in the Stanley Cup Finals, being the only teams that would win Lord Stanley’s elusive mug, up for grabs here is a pair of classic Topps releases form 1977-78 and 1978-79. The ’77-78 set, a strong and consistent EX-MT/NM assembly with some NM offerings present as well, the set lacks star rookie power with examples of Mike Palmateer and Mike Milbury worth noting. Key cards include EX-MT/NM offerings of 30-Robinson, 100-Dryden, 110-McDonald while those of 140-Salming and 251-Orr falls a bit towards the EX-MT range. Cards #200 of Guy Lafleur is seen is the vicinity of EX+ with #115 of Bobby Clarke around EX. Card #65 of Flyers keeper Bernie Parent is the worst of the key contributor’s condition wise, falling around the range of VG-EX. The team checklist cards all remain unmarked while the main series checklist cards are also unmarked, in the condition range of EX-MT and EX-MT/NM respectively.
The 1978-79 set is a strong EX-MT/NM ensemble, headlined by the rookie cards of Mike Bossy and Bernie Federko in the EX-MT/NM condition scope and joined by keys of 50-Dryden, 90-Lafleur, 215-Clarke, 240-Salming and 245-Potvin in mirroring condition. Other keys of card #1 picturing Mike Bossy as the rookie record breaker and #264 of Larry Robinson/the Stanley Cup the condition vicinity of EX. Like its elder counterpart, the team checklists remain unmarked, as do the main series checklists, which are present in the same EX-MT/NM condition that most of the sets specimens are found in.
