Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Winter 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/28/2023
77 cards larger than the set from the previous season, the 1972-73 O-Pee-Chee release rang in at 341 total cards, the biggest set released by the Canadian manufacturer up to that point and came at an important time in hockey history as the WHA entered the professional climate with its first season of play that same year. On the auction block here is this complete set of 1972-73 O-Pee-Chee with the grouping here largely remaining in respectable EX/EX-MT condition with a few exceptions. Important 2nd year offerings of #145-Dryden and #8-Dionne fall in the vicinity of EX-MT and EX/EX-MT respectively with the Dionne off-center on both the front and reverse. #59-Lafleur comes in around EX condition and displays some surface scratches and fuzzy/rounded corners. Cards picturing Hall of Famers #14-Clarke and #58-Orr are in the range of EX condition with #111-Esposito in VG in our books, showing creases to three of the four corners. Other noteworthy issues include #129-Orr (EX/EX-MT), #227-Orr/Park (EX/EX-MT) and #336-Hull (VG/VG-EX – crease at the top right corner) while checklist cards #6, #19, #190 and #334 (x2) all remain unmarked and display in the condition range of EX-MT. Overall a pleasing set sure to bring back fond memories of yesteryear for the lucky winner.
