Founded in 1872 and existing until 1915, the Montreal Football Club would play in the Quebec Rugby Football Union and later the Interprovincial Rugby Football Union. A founding member of the QRFU, the club played in the first football game played in Quebec and was dominant in the province, winning 12 of 24 QRFU titles in the years that they played in that league. Winners of the first Canadian Dominion Football Championship in 1884, a predecessor of the Grey Cup, the club again won the championship in their first season in the IRFU in 1907. Offered here, is this turn of the century Montreal Football Club sterling pin. Measuring ¾” x 1” at its largest points, the famed winged wheel of the Montreal Amateur Athletic Association is found at the top above a football (slightly moveable) that is flanked on either side by ribbons in individual black and red that read “Montreal” and “Football” respectively. Stamped on the back with “Hemsley’s” and “Sterling”, the pin remains in excellent condition and presents beautifully while still remaining its original stick pin backing. Of note, the only issue present on the piece is that the stick pin does not go into the loop on the back its supposed due to it having been bent it seems.
