Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/2/2023
Nicknamed “The Big Train”, Lionel Conacher was voted Canada’s top athlete for the first half of the 20th century having won the 1921 Grey Cup with the Toronto Argonauts, the 1926 International League championship with the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Memorial Cup in 1920 and the Stanley Cup twice, in 1934 and 1935 respectively. Offered here, is this 1961 Wheaties Great Moments in Canadian Sports football card of Conacher. Number 22 in the set, the sporting legend is pictured over the front in a kicking motion wearing his 1933 Toronto Crosse and Blackwell Chefs uniform. Remaining in the VG/EX condition range, the card displays off-center from left-to-right. Showing light wear touches to the corners all the way around, a crease to the right of his head, seen easier on the back than the front, is the thing bringing the grade down. Overall displaying very nicely, don’t let this offering of a Canadian sporting legend pass you by!
