Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2023

Drafted by the Cleveland Rams in the 2nd round of the 1942 NFL Draft after playing college football at Oklahoma, Jack Jacobs would play six (6) seasons in the NFL before moving on to become a Canadian football legend with five seasons with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, leading them to Grey Cup appearances in 1950 and 1953. A charter member of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame, offered here is Jacobs’ 1954 Blue Ribbon rookie offering. The lead off card in the set and remaining in the VG to VG/EX condition range, the card is slightly off-centered left-to-right while exhibiting wear/dings to the corners as well as a one-inch-long crease in the lower right corner area. The first football card set to use color images, which were actually colorized versions of the original black and white photos supplied by the participating teams, the “tall-boy” issue is described by author Andy Malycky in “Collecting Canadian Football,” as the crown jewel of vintage Canadian football sets, thanks in part to the presence of many stars and Hall-of-Famers. Long thought to have been available in boxes of Blue Ribbon Tea, the cards were actually issued inside of Blue Ribbon Milk Chocolate candy bars.
