Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2023

The most iconic baseball card set of all-time and featuring the always sought after rookie card of Mickey Mantle as card #311 in its checklist of 407 different examples, the 1952 Topps baseball card set laid the foundation for what would become the modern trading card. In addition to the larger checklist, the design of the cards themselves featured full team logos, colorized black-and-white photography and, most interestingly, a facsimile signature of the player taken directly from their player contract with Topps. Offered here, is this complete 402-card reprint set of Topps’ iconic 1952 released that was issued by the company in 1983. Housed in its original box that displays the full checklist on the bottom, light wear is exhibited to the corners and edges. For the cards, all identical to their original 1952 versions except for the “Topps 1952 Reprint Series” designation on the back of each card, all the included specimens are red back versions and remain in excellent condition that would be considered NM or better except for a couple of exceptions with only light handling wear observed throughout the assembly. Of note, some of the cards shows rough cut edges and are off-center, something that is commonly seen with this release. Additionally, it should be noted that five players (Billy Loes, Dom DiMaggio, Saul Rogovin, Solly Hemus and Tommy Holmes) that had cards in the original series are not seen in this one due to licensing issues. Overall, a fantastic chance to get an example of the iconic set at a far more affordable price.
