Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/2/2023
"Do you have any Exhibits?" A question vintage hockey card dealers are often asked and the answer is usually "no", for these black and white postcard-size cards are indeed scarce. Fantastic find here includes a total of 77 of these highly-sought treasures, mostly depicting members of the Montreal Canadiens but also showing those suiting up for the Maple Leafs, Red Wings, Rangers, Black Hawks and Bruins. Individual poses include Montreal Hall-of-Famers Richard (2 different), Blake, Beliveau (3 different), Bouchard, Johnson (2 different), Olmstead (2 different), Geoffrion (2 different), Harvey, Lach (2 different), Moore and Kenny Reardon, along with Curry (2 different), Gamble (2 different), McNeil (2 different), Abbot, Fillion, Laycoe, Maznick, Meger, MacPherson, St-Laurent, Warwick, Mosdell and Billy Reay. The remaining 14 exhibit cards depict game action as well as the likes of Howe, Rayner, Lumley (2 different), Bentley, Barilko, and Broda to name a few. On thick cardboard stock, all show varying degrees of wear with a wide range of conditions represented with the most common defects being edge/corner wear along with creasing and toning. Other flaws found throughout the group include pen/pencil marks, paper residue from having been in a scrapbook, tape residue and liquid staining. Overall, we have no doubt that these will surely please those who have been searching for them for years. Additionally, also included with the collection is an assortment of other exhibit cards and post cards with most picturing Maurice Richard or Jean Beliveau over the front. Including a late-1940s post card of “Rocket” as well as two 1950s Dow postcards, “Big Jean” is seen over his examples in both his Quebec Aces and Canadiens uniforms with Beliveau having signed two of his offerings. Once again in a wide range of conditions, defects are much like those listed above pertaining to the Exhibit cards.
