Never missing a single game as the Los Angeles Kings trainer from 1972 to 2006, Pete Demers reached his milestone 2,500th game during the 2003-04 NHL season, on Dec 18, 2003 vs Phoenix. Honouring the achievement, superstar Mark Messier - while in his final NHL season - signed and gifted Demers this game-used stick. Likely happening when the Rangers were next in town, on December 30th, the TPS Response model has "Messier" and "11" over the shaft, with the original tape to the handle, with the blade tape removed. Showing light to moderate use, Messier has signed the frontside blade in silver, adding "To Pete, Congrats on your 2500th Game, Keep it Going!".
Beginning his career with Los Angeles in 1972, Pete Demers stayed with the organization until 2006, and holds the record for the most consecutive games as a hockey athletic trainer at 2,632. Demers also served as trainer at numerous international tournaments including the 1998 Olympic Games with Team USA, in addition to serving for three terms as president of the Professional Hockey Athletic Trainers Society (1994-2000). Well respected throughout his tenure, Demers is an honoured member of the Professional Hockey Athletic Trainers Society Hall of Fame and the Hockey Hall of Fame, as well as the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame and Rhode Island Hockey Hall of Fame.
