Drafted 6th overall by the New York Rangers at the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Al Montoya would go on to play parts of nine (9) seasons in the National Hockey League with Phoenix, New York, Winnipeg, Florida, Montreal and Edmonton. Hailing from the time when Montoya turned pro as a member of the Rangers organization playing for the Hartford Wolf Pack in the AHL, is this glove and blocker set used by the goalie. Both RBK Premier Series model gauntlets in the Wolf Pack’s red, white and navy colours, “Montoya” is embroidered into both gloves in navy thread, found on the underside of the blocker and outside wrist of the glove.
Exhibiting heavy use, each glove is riddled with puck marks throughout with heavy rubbing and holes as well as green colour transfer seen on the palm of the blocker. Fraying/fabric loss is seen in small amounts on the end of the blocker and tip of the gloves pocket with the nylon fabric of each glove showing lots of sweat staining and some red post paint rubbing. Of note, Montoya can be seen using this model of glove and blocker in photos from both the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons but they are not photo-matches, with these exact models showing different wear patterns/marks. An excellent set of gloves used to foil the best shooters in the world, don’t let them pass you by and add them to your collection.
