Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Winter 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/28/2023
Coached by former longtime 1920s/30s Chicago Black Hawks star and two-time Stanley Cup champion Johnny Gottselig, the Black Hawks were guided in goals and assists by Max Bentley in 1946-47, with the HOFer leading the NHL in points. Paul Bibeault would serve the majority of the season between the pipes, with HOFer Emile Francis contributing 6 wins. Originally purchased directly from a Charles and Bill Hay family estate sale, this team-issued photo has been signed by the members of the 1946-47 Black Hawks. At 9" x 12", the colourized image features full body poses, with 15 signing including 6 HOFers (Mosienko, Gadsby, Smith, Francis and the Bentley brothers). The blue ink signatures display especially well with just very light fading, along with some toning, small wrinkles/creases and a few edge tears to the photo. This specimen would be an ideal candidate for a quality frame. An LOA from Classic Auctions will accompany.
