Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction December 2022

Transformed from a baseball diamond to a hockey rink, 41,821 braved the New Year’s Day elements at Citi Field in New York City to watch the 2018 NHL Winter Classic between the New York Rangers and Buffalo Sabres, with this, the 10th anniversary of the annual event, won by the Rangers, 3-2 in overtime. Presented here, we have this Sabres jersey worn during the first period of play by Chad Johnson. “58G” sizing appears across the Adidas collar band with NHL and Adidas crests decorating the front and back necklines respectively. Styled with a classic felt Sabres crest across the front with partially embroidered details, the all-important Winter Classic event patch resides over the right shoulder while a Sabres alternate logo patch sits over the left. The sleeves and verso of the jersey have Johnson’s “31” sewn on via a zig-zag pattern in single layer blue felt numerals with “Johnson” in matching style across the affixed matching nameplate. Worn for a single period, the jersey remains in beautiful condition with no obvious game wear as Johnson was the backup and only wore the jersey on the bench. The fight strap shows a handwritten “1” to denote first period while the interior hem sports a Sabres team patch and a “Game Worn” patch from Fanatics.
