Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction December 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/13/2022
Voted as the greatest fighter of the past 50 years by the Associated Press in 1950, Jack Dempsey (1895-1983) reigned as the world heavyweight champion from 1919 to 1926, with his hard-hitting style and affable character making him an American icon throughout the 1920s. The Manassa Mauler would win 54 of his 75 career fights, with 44 by knockout. Presented here, is this elegant framed display containing memorabilia from the famed fighter with a dual-signed ''Jack Dempsey Broadway Bar Drink List'' signed by Jack and his wife, Hannah, sitting proudly in the middle. The drink list shows creases from folding as well as a liquid ring and streak at the top. Both Dempsey’s have signed below Jack’s image with gorgeous blue ink signatures that display without issue. Flanking the autographed drink list, an inaugural issue of Dempsey’s Sports Magazine from 1938 is found, remaining in good condition with bright colours and a crease seen. The right side of the piece contains a 1938 photograph of Jack and Hannah. The photo has creases but otherwise presents well. Everything is housed in a smart looking black frame that shows wear to the edges and corners and measures up to 32 ½” x 20 ¾”. All the displayed items are seen under black and white mattes with gold and black coloured metal information plaques under each piece. A JSA LOA will accompany the item.
