Representing Canada at numerous tournaments throughout his career including the World Championships, Spengler Cup and Winter Olympics, Ryan Smith spent 19 seasons in the NHL, scoring over 800 points in 1,270 regular season games. From his second of two seasons in Colorado, we have a photo-matched Avalanche alternate captain’s jersey worn by the Banff native in 2008-09 while scoring his milestone 300th goal, on Jan 18, 2009. A CCM label with “56” sizing is affixed to the collar, with NHL and Reebok crests on the front and reverse necklines respectively. Styled with the familiar Avs team crest, the V-neck sweater has been accented with textured and layered tackle twill sleeve and verso numbers, with matching Bigfoot alternate crests over each shoulder. A patch from MeiGray numbered “F04075” sits on the inside hem, and according to their population report, the garment is a "Burgundy Set 2" example.
Sporting a bit of surface wear to the team crest, there are board burns over each sleeve, with a bit of red paint transfer over the reverse “4”. We should also note that a piece of black velcro has been added to the lower right reverse. Getty Image #84352447 from Jan 18, 2009 (night of his 300th goal), has been matched to the diagonal mark that starts in the left middle section of the team crest, and to the loose blue thread sticking out on the left shoulder near the collar, while Getty Image #84352347, also from Jan 18, has been matched to the red and black mark on the bottom of the "9" of "94" on the reverse of the jersey. Ryan Smyth and right winger Milan Hejduk scored their respective 300th career goals on January 18, 2009, against the Calgary Flames in a 6–2 victory at the Pepsi Center. This jersey was originally purchased directly from MeiGray but the LOA has been lost.
