Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction December 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/13/2022
A glorious opportunity is how we and surely others rate the sensational and tempting assembly of 1959-60 Parkhurst cards on the auction block here, with the perfect and near-perfect encapsulated beauties the likes of which were first found in 5-cent packs during the Montreal Canadiens’ record-setting season. The set’s key card, that of Habs’ captain Maurice Richard headlines a group of 22 that received coveted MINT 9 recognition upon assessment at PSA, with an equal amount earning NM-MT 8 status and the other six slabbed NM-MT+ 8.5. No other Rocket Richard ’59-60 Parkie has ever graded higher than the (Pop 15) example offered here, while similar PSA leaders are MINT 9s of 39-Henri Richard, 37-Marshall, 42-Price and 46-Officials intervene. Meanwhile, the Hall of Fame lineup contributing to the MINT 9 booty includes 7-Armstrong, 8-Harvey, 14-Moore, 15-Imlach RC, 23-Horton, 32-Bower, 33-Geoffrion and 40-Olmstead, while most notable NM-MT 8s are 1-Canadiens on guard, 3-Brewer RC, 6-Beliveau, 24-Mahovlich, 27-Blake, 41-Plante, 47-Selke and 50-Clancy. At NM-MT+ 8.5 are HOFers 10-Johnson, 22-Reardon and 44-Stanley, along with 4-Goyette, 31-Hicke RC and 48-Edmundson RC. The bright vivid original colors, the sharp corners and the smooth edges are all a treat to peruse, and also impressive is the condition of the holders themselves; obvious (small) scratches/scuffs/blemishes are few and far between – kudos to our consigner. Like he, you too will be proud to own these formidable classic collectibles.
