An eight-year veteran of the Pacific Coast Hockey League and the Western Hockey League, Joe Evans would spend half of it in Victoria, playing for the Cougars. Presented here is this collection of memorabilia hailing from Evans career. First, three pucks are found including specimens from the Victoria Cougars, Victoria Maple Leafs and Portland Buckaroos. The Cougars game puck dates between 1956-61, with the team crest showing some fading and light wear, with similar seen on the reverse. Surface wear is present with a hole drilled through the top. The Maple Leafs game puck hails from 1964-67 and shows toning and surface wear to both of the rubberized crests. The Portland puck, again shows surface wear consistent to both sides while showing a fairly clean logo. On an old CCM2 slug, a small chip is seen on the obverse edge between 4 and 5 o’clock. Next up, is a vintage Vancouver Canucks jacket patch. Measuring approx. 7 ½” x 3 ¾” at its longest points, the intricately sewn patch remains clean with light toning and a hole seen under the “C” in Canucks. Other wearable items present include a pair of San Francisco Shamrocks hand painted ties. Both show staining to the front near the artwork with loose threads on the reverse and a tear seen on the back of one tail. Found on the reverse end of each is “Hand Painted in Salazar” in black ink with one also having “Expressly For Mr. Joe Evans” as well. The last wearable item is a sterling silver pendant made for Larry Frechette of the San Diego Skyhawks. Marked “Zero Club” and “US Amateur Hockey Association”, the pendant measures 1” in diameter with the back engraved “Nov 6, 1947 Larry Frechette Skyhawks”. With no obvious flaws, the piece remains in excellent condition. Next, is a group of 10 Cougars game programs dating between 1949 and 1951. Ranging in condition with most being described as fair, three of the found examples are incomplete with just a couple of pages and the roster present with the others showing varying degrees of wear to the covers. A San Diego Gulls program from Al Nicholson Night on March 30, 1973 is included, with a handwritten note to Evans from Nicholson found inside. A WHA guide from 1975-76 is seen and remains in good condition with pen writing on the inside. Moving on, other items included are 1) A Cougars 1953-54 roster and schedule guidebook, 2) 6 ticket stubs dating between 1948 and 1952 with one being from the Fresno Falcons and the other 5 being Cougars stubs and 3) Joe Evans’ 1946-47 PCHL official pass and USAHA registration card. A trio of items from the Victoria Maple Leafs is present, including a lapel button, rubber logo badge and a program from 1966-67 that has a tear to the cover of the upper spine and light spots on some of the interior pages to go along with general age and handling wear. Lastly, a group of golf items including a badge, 2 tags and a hat for the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic from 1997 is included with the hat signed by John Daly, Bob Hope and Robert Stack. A piece of paper autographed by Corey Pavin is also found along with a program from the 1965 Ryder Cup
