Finishing first overall at the conclusion of the 1933-34 NHL season, the Toronto Maple Leafs received a bye to the Stanley Cup semifinals. Facing the American Division’s first-place Detroit Red Wings, the series went the full five games, with the Red Wings slipping past, with a 1-0 victory in the final game. The season was also noteworthy for the famous Ace Bailey benefit game that took place at MLG on February 14th. We offer a Maple Leaf Gardens program for Game 1 of the 1934 Stanley Cup semifinals, played on March 22, 1934, and won by the boys from Motown, 2-1, with Herbie Lewis scoring the game winner. Picturing artwork of crowd favourite Busher Jackson on the cover along with a muted but recognizable Charlie Gardiner, the 72-page program is complete including the center line-up, with advertising from CCM, Brown’s Sports and Love & Bennett featuring the Leafs, along with desirable photos of each team from the Ace Bailey benefit game. Exhibiting just honest handling wear which includes a crease to the cover and toning to the interior pages, the staples remain tight, with the program ideal for display.
