Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction December 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/13/2022
An interesting pair of offering stemming from the 1970s and 1980s is this group offering collectors the chance at complete sets of 1970-71 Dad's Cookies hockey cards as well as 1980-81 O-Pee-Chee Super Photos with its original display box. Originally culled from packages of delicious Dad’s Cookies in 1970-71, and apparently, also to be distributed with a chocolate cookie bar named “Hat Trick” – according to Bobby Burrell’s Vintage Hockey Collector book, we have a complete set of 1970-71 Dad’s Cookies. Featuring all players in matching “NHL Players” NHLPA jerseys, the set is complete at 144, with all of the superstars of the day featured, including Howe, Beliveau, Orr, Plante, Hull and many others. Regarding condition, the majority of the cards remain in EX condition or higher on some with most showing light handling wear at the corners with toning also being present. The cards of Seiling, Martin and Crozier show light spotting while Orr, DeJordy, Cheevers, Bucyk and Awrey have small dings to their left edges. The card of Wayne Muloin shows creasing to the top right corner. The 1980-81 O-Pee-Chee Super Photos set contains 24 stars of the day and measure 5” x 7”. Highlighted by Wayne Gretzky in his second year, his example remains in EX-MT condition with a light touch of wear to the lower right-hand corner. The rest of the 23 cards (+1 extra Larry Robinson included) also remain in EX-MT condition or higher and display with strong colours and surfaces with just light wear touches to the corners present. The lot is rounded out by an original display box for the Super Photos set that remains in good condition with common wear to the edges and corners of the cardboard.
