Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction December 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/13/2022
Four of the five most important/valuable cards in Topps’ 1961-62 hockey card set are offered up here in encapsulated form and alluring condition, with Bobby Hull’s card #29 headlining a trio that earned NM-MT 8 status at PSA. Bobby was surely “pumped” as the ’61-62 season got underway - the Black Hawks had captured the Stanley Cup the previous spring – and went on to score 50 goals and win the scoring championship. Precisely-centered card has but two bottom corner touches that denied it an even higher grade. Jean Ratelle’s desirable rookie card and the card of Rangers’ player-coach Doug Harvey also merited NM-MT 8 assessments, while the RC of New York fan-favorite Rod Gilbert is slabbed NM 7. Completing is the challenging #66-Checklist card, also at NM 7. We spot a small light scratch to the front of the PSA holder of the Gilbert rookie but all in all, the holders have been preserved in almost-immaculate condition.
