Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction December 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/13/2022
Highlights and details galore to tell you about here, with the intriguing Tall Boy action featuring some three dozen encapsulated examples, most of them in the PSA 5-6-7 range and bettered by a terrific Terry Sawchuk card graded NM/MT+ 8.5 by SGC numerous years ago. Twenty-five of the other 28 slabbed 1st Series representatives were inspected by PSA, with five at NM 7; 15-Ullman, 33-Beliveau SP, 37-Balon, 42-Smith and 44-Kelly, while three of nine 2nd Series cards include NM 7s of 62-Hadfield, 68-Plante and 94-Keon – nice. A Gary Bergman SP rookie card (SGC NM 7), Roger Crozier’s RC (PSA EX-MT+ 6.5) and Glenn Hall in a recent SGC holder labeled “6 EX NM” segue into the biggest stack; 15 are PSA EX-MT 6 contributors, highlighted by Gordie Howe (the lone 2nd Series card), 1-Martin RC, 4-Ferguson and 31-Mikita, as well as two #54-1st Series Checklists. Rounding out the graded segment are 53-Laperriere (SGC EX+ 5.5), 100-Bucyk (BVG 5 EXCELLENT with a heavily scratched holder) and nine PSA EX 5s, including 45-Imlach, 66-Angotti RC, 95-Delvecchio, 97-Marshall and 110-Hall All-Star. Meanwhile, the lowdown on the raw roster goes like this: 1st Series cards (25) slightly outnumber their higher number counterparts (23), with the former’s overall condition better than the latter’s. The range is similar to the graded lineup (mostly EX to NM), with more sub-EXs and no NMs appearing in the Maple Leafs-led (12 cards) high numbers. Most notable are 20-Hull SP (VG-EX), 48-Richard SP (VG-EX), 69-Armstrong and 71-Shack at VG+ (due to a small crease), 82-Lindsay (VG-EX+), 85-Mahovlich (EX), 102-Horton (VG+) and 107-Hull All-Star (VG+). A 55-2nd Series Checklist is partially marked and otherwise G and there are no high number short prints but still, loads of possibilities and options await the new owner. The PSA holders have in general been well cared for, although not without intermittent scratches, while the older SGC holders exhibit obvious scratches/scuffs. Oh, and there are two extra 38-Reay cards and a duplicate 64-Pappin RC. Check them all out and let us know if good for you.
