Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction December 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/13/2022
Members of the six expansion teams helped usher in O-Pee-Chee’s first official hockey card issue of the postwar era, led numerically by Doug Harvey and rookie card-wise by goaltending great Bernie Parent, with the Parent RC featured here receiving a fetching mark of NM 7, the same as Derek Sanderson’s second-year example. The accompanying stack of raw cards includes additional Parent (VG+) and Sanderson (VG+) cards, making for appreciated bonuses, while the Bobby Orr lowdown goes like this: Bobby’s regular (#2) entry displays an oftentimes-seen diamond cut, (like numerous others, most of them 1st Series cards), and is VG-EX+ due to one corner ding and wear to the reverse (corners), while 200-All-Star (EX+) and 214-Norris Trophy (EX-MT+) are superior. Hull (EX+), Howe (VG+ due to a factory-produced horizontal wrinkle), Redmond RC (EX-MT) and two unmarked checklists are also to note, with #61-2nd Series VG+ and 121-1st Series first appearing EX-MT but with an apparent little red ink mark (lower front) and a diamond cut. You can anticipate a strong majority of pleasing crease-free cards among the rest, with EX to EX-MT+ dominating and NM-or-better representatives also present, along with the odd intermittent creased sub-EX rep. You’ll notice one other bonus in our images; Gordie Howe’s #22 700th goal tribute issue (VG), part of the ’68-69 puck sticker set. Always-popular ’68-69 OPCs await their new appreciative home.
