Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/27/2023
A forty-four (44) year old survivor, the rookie card of Wayne Gretzky stands alone in terms of being the most important and most valuable card within the 1979-80 O-Pee-Chee hockey set’s checklist, instantly recognized by the iconic blue borders and skate design over the reverse. Definitely battled scarred, this copy of “The Great One’s” rookie card has recently been received back from grading at KSA where is has been assessed the designation of “AUTHENTIC” by the graders. Displaying with surface wear, numerous heavy creases, corner wear/rounding/dings, staining and a 1” long tear extending into the middle of the card from the right border, the card is sure to provide a reasonably priced opportunity for our lucky winning bidder to add one to their collection should they have not already done so. The KSA holder shows light scratches and scuffs over both sides worth mentioning for accuracy.
It must be noted that the grading standards followed by KSA may not correspond to those currently employed by PSA, BGS or SGC. The outcome of an attempted cross-over of this piece through any of those services, then, would be uncertain and cannot be guaranteed.
