One of the most iconic matchups the NHL has to offer saw Auston Matthews and the Toronto Maple Leafs pitted against the Montreal Canadiens on April 7, 2021, with Matthews well on his way to claiming his first Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy. This particular puck was used by to score his 28th goal of the season and 186th of his career, to help pad his goal scoring lead. Coming only 54 seconds into the first period of play and having been assisted by Ilya Mikheyev and Zach Hyman, the goal would put the Leafs on the right path, leading to a 3-2 win. The “Official Game Puck” sports a Leafs logo on the obverse with the NHL shield featured on the opposite side. Tape has been added along the side that has “TOR #1 - #34 – 04/07/2021 – P1” handwritten, with a hologram from the Leafs also affixed. The puck shows cuts over the obverse with abrasions also present on both sides. The puck comes housed in a Leafs holder with the particulars all listed on an accompanying COA.
