Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Winter 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/28/2023
One of the better visually appealing sets released by O-Pee-Chee during the decade of the 1980s in this writer's opinion, offered here is a chance to knock the company’s 1984-85 release off your want list. Featuring a checklist that rings in at 396-cards, the assembly is led by the rookie class of Steve Yzerman, Pat LaFontaine, Chris Chelios, Doug Gilmour and Cam Neely, with the first three names listed having their examples remain in a condition range that is EX-MT/NM in our opinion with Chelios showing subpar centering while Neely is around EX-MT with slight corner wear and Gilmour is about VG due to a crease at the bottom left. Other notable cards include #1 of Ray Bourque (60-40 centering) and #208, Wayne Gretzky’s All-Star release in mirroring EX-MT/NM condition to the rookies listed above. Gretzky’s regular series offering, card #243, falls in the vicinity of EX-MT condition due to its slight corner wear and tiny imperfection at the top left. In consistent EX-MT/NM condition throughout with about 10-12 common cards being exceptions due to creases, all three checklist cards, the last three cards in the set, remain unmarked and in the same EX-MT/NM condition. The usual bevy of Gretzky league leaders and award winner cards are present as well, once again in similar condition to the majority of the set and totaling eight other cards that haven’t already been listed. Additionally, approximately 200 additional cards are included with the set, all in similar condition with some light corner wear to speak of, all are mostly just commons with no big stars, Gretzky’s, checklists or major rookie cards being present. Once contained within wax wrappers displaying a price of .35 cents and the chance to win a trip to the Stanley Cup Final, 55 wrappers are included with the lot, majority in good condition with common wear such as small tears, creases and fold lines being observed.
