Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/27/2023
Featuring only the Rangers, Bruins and Black Hawks for the third straight season, the 1962-63 Topps hockey assembly up for grabs here remains in a uniform condition range of GOOD and G to VG offerings with a couple of cards possibly being better while most show common flaws including corner wear/dings as well as small creases with a few showing edge issues worth mentioning for accuracy as well. Featuring most having retained overall good colours with baby blue borders that drum up comparisons to a certain set that would appear 17 years later, the notable cards are led VG to VG-EX rookie card examples of #3 Bruce Gamble and #60 Vic Hadfield with both light corner wear while Gamble’s first-year cardboard is a bit off-center from left-to-right. Next up, cards seen as being in the range of G to VG include the likes of the Chicago Black Hawks team card, #44 in the set which shows corner and edge wear plus dings and is joined by the team card of the Boston Bruins, #22 in the set and once again showing some corner wear and dings as well light edge dings to go along with some minor toning. The last of the trio in this condition vicinity is that of Gump Worsley’s card, seen with light corner wear and dings plus a pair of light creases at the top right on the reverse that aren’t seen on the front side. For the last group, cards perceived as being in the approximate range of GOOD include 11-Bucyk (off-center a tad left-to-right and corner wear/dings, 24-Hall (off-center left-to-right, corner wear and dings, dings to the right edge), 33-Hull (corner wear/dings, stain on reverse at top right and surface wear on front), 34-Mikita (corner wear/dings, small crease at the bottom right corner and some toning), 58-Ratelle (corner wear and dings plus surface wear and minor toning), 59-Gilbert (corner wear plus dings and off-center left-to-right) and 65-Rangers (corner and edge dings. With the checklist in the scope of PR to FR condition having been fully marked and sporting heavy wear throughout including multiple large creases, it should be noted for accuracy that cards #1, 26, 32, 48, 56 and 64 are creased. A wonderful trip down memory lane to the days of the Original Six await our lucky winning bidder!
