Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Winter 2023

Earning 74 points during the 1964-65 NHL season – enough for a fourth-place finish, the Toronto Maple Leafs were led in scoring by Frank Mahovlich, with Terry Sawchuk producing 17 wins and earning the Vezina Trophy (along with Johnny Bower). Facing Jean Beliveau and the rival Montreal Canadiens in the Stanley Cup semifinals, the Leafs would lose the series in six games. Offered here, is this stick that has been signed by 17 members of the 1964-65 Leafs. A generic full-size, straight-blade model with “Left 6” stamped to the upper shaft, additional stamps reading “Doug Laurie Sports Maple Leaf Gardens Toronto Ont” and “Autograph” are present. The stick displays some wear and cracks to the blade and lower shaft with the lower striping accent also mostly gone. Signed on one side of the shaft in a mix of blue ballpoint pen and pencil, the signers include Terry Sawchuk, Allen Stanley, Red Kelly (pencil), Ron Ellis (pencil), Jim Pappin (pencil), Tim Horton, Carl Brewer, Ron Stewart, Andy Bathgate, Eddie Shack, Bob Pulford, George Armstrong and Frank Mahovlich (pencil). The signatures signed in pen appear mostly without issue and remain legible. The ones done in pencil are extremely light and barely able to be made out. Of note, there are four autographs signed in pencil that cannot be made out with the signatures of Kelly, Ellis and Pappin all signed together and displaying between the "Autograph" stamp and the signatures of Horton/Brewer.
