Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Fall 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/20/2022
Serving as “The Lord of Preston” from 1886 until his accession as The 16th Earl of Derby in 1893, Frederick Arthur Stanley is best remembered for his donation of North America’s greatest sporting trophy, with his signature one of the most sought after in the hobby. We offer a signature cut from the iconic donator, with this specimen penned during his time as Lord of Preston. At approx 1 ½” x 3”, the small paper sheet appears to be trimmed from a letter or document, and is signed “Stanley of Preston” in dark ink, with “Yours very truly” above, penned in Stanley’s hand (“Lord” and “Gov Gen of Canada” also encompasses the signature in red, with this penned by an unknown hand). Exhibiting light toning along with minor residue on the reverse, this specimen would be ideal for framing along with a photo of the legendary politician. Comes with a Classic Auctions LOA.
