Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Fall 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/20/2022
The first time in history NHL games were played in Europe, the 1938 Detroit Red Wings–Montreal Canadiens European tour featured the clubs playing a series of nine exhibition games in England and France following the conclusion of the 1937-38 NHL season. Matches took place from April 21st to May 14th, with the Canadiens winning the series 5–3–1. We offer a rare program for the first game, played at Earls Court on April 21st (won by the Habs 5-4 in OT). The program is complete including the line-ups, with moderate wear including clear tape added to the spine and rusting to the staples. Next, we have an original media photo showing the Canadiens including Babe Siebert, Toe Blake, Johnny Gagnon, and Cecil Hart (6 ½” x 8” with stamp on reverse from Sussex Daily News), and lastly, the Cunard White Star menu has been signed by 28 within the interior pages, including Jack Adams, Babe Seibert, Walter Buswell, Syd Howe, Toe Blake, Pit Lepine, Carl Liscombe, Larry Aurie, Ebbie Goodfellow, Cecil Hart, Paul Haynes, Normie Smith, Mud Bruneteau, Johnny Gagnon and others. The signatures display well despite being somewhat bunched-up, with light wear and toning to the menu. An LOA from Classic Auctions will accompany.
