Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Fall 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/21/2022
Born shortly before the start of the Civil War in Montreal, journalist, publisher and hockey administrator Philip Dansken Ross attended McGill and served as captain of the football team, playing in the world’s first North American international match vs Harvard in 1878. Later associated with the Ottawa Hockey Club, Ross would be appointed as one of the two original trustees of the Dominion Hockey Challenge Cup by Lord Stanley, and held that position for over half a century until his death, in 1949. Enshrined in the HOF as a builder in 1976, we offer a hardcover copy of his book Retrospects of a Newspaper Person signed by Ross. Published in 1931, the 325-page book has been signed by Ross in fountain pen on the first page, with a personalization added. The flawless autograph is large and bold with no issues, with minor wear to the book including some fading to the boards, with the original pictorial dust jacket which is brittle and in pieces included. An LOA from Classic Auctions will accompany.
