Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction December 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/13/2022
A chance to knock a 1980-81 and a 1984-85 O-Pee-Chee hockey card sets off of your want list is available here.
Wayne Gretzky’s various second-year cards and key rookie cards of Mark Messier and Raymond Bourque are to tell you about here with the Great One's card #250 in the EX-MT, or slightly better, vicinity and joined by his cards #87 (small dent top left corner) and #182 (light wear top left corner) in the EX-MT range. Mark Messier's rookie card has a rough cut on the top edge otherwise has attributes of an EX-MT or better card while Ray Bourque's rookie card is off-centered and has a printing defect near its top middle edge. The rookie cards of 195-Gartner, 67-Goulet, 242-Vaive, 22-Craig, 31-Liut (off-centered), 39-Propp (off-centered) and 344-Langway have EX to EX-MT characteristics with the latter three off-centered cards in the lower grade of the scope. The three checklists are unmarked and additional Gretzky cards #s 3 (off-centered), 162 (small stain) and 163 are also part of the 1980-81 offering. The balance of the set is in a consistent EX-MT vicinity with light corner wear spotted on some cards and typical OPC centering issues on others.
The rookie class of 1984-85 included cards of 17-Andreychuk, 67-Yzerman, 129-LaFontaine, 185-Gilmour, 259-Chelios and 327-Neely, with the Hall of Famers' first cardboard appearances in the EX-MT to NM range and in the same general condition are the included rookie cards of 18-Barrasso and 121-Verbeek. Gretzky card's #107 is slightly off-center with additional cards of "The Great One" including #s 208, 357, 373, 374, 380, 381, 382, 383 (wax stain) and 388 which are generally in the EX-MT to NM scope. Oilers teammates cards of 254-Messier (off-centered), 249-Kurri (pen mark on front/off-centered) and 241-Fuhr (dent on upper corner/rough cut/off-centered) are in lesser condition than the ones above. Card #1 of Bourque has damage to its lower right corner area while the 385-scoring leader card of Yzerman has a dent on its upper left edge. The remainder of the set seems to reflect the quality of the better condition cards listed above and in the EX-MT to NM vicinity. Missing for completion is card #140.
