Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Fall 2022

Some important rookie cards from the mid-1980s are featured in the first couple of sets that contribute to this group, with none more significant and alluring than that picturing Patrick Roy. The centering is not precise but otherwise a NM example awaits the high bidder. Although NM-or-better cards look to be the norm throughout two big binders, obvious condition exceptions are to report, with some of the key cards, as is often the case, among the notables. Steve Yzerman’s 1984-85 RC (G) has multiple creases, while dinged corners drop Doug Gilmour and Cam Neely rookies to below EX, although 243-Wayne Gretzky is NM. Mario Lemieux’s second-year card from the Roy RC set is but G+ with creases/dings, but Wendel Clark and John Vanbiesbrouck RCs are nicer at EX-MT+. Luc Robitaille (NM+ (OC)) is tops among 44 rookies in an ’87-88 set that features a majority of sharp NM-MT-or-better entries. Make that 43 rookies as a Ron Hextall RC is not present, making for a near set. As one would expect, an ’89-90 assembly features mostly sharp representatives, with however a flaw or two detected in Joe Sakic, Theoron Fleury and Brian Leetch rookies – more evidence that only a small percentage of cards/collectibles out there are actually perfect. Nevertheless, a swell trip back to the ‘80s is in store for you here.
