The NHL put one in the top corner with the 2008 Winter Classic outdoor game on New Year’s Day. The Buffalo Sabres hosted Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first edition of what has become an annual showcase event for the league. This jersey was worn by Bryan Campbell in the second period of the contest in which he scored the Sabres’ only regulation time goal of the game. Made by Reebok with a size “56” fly tag in the neck, the front of the Throwback uniform is stylized with the classic Sabres crest with the all-important Winter Classic patch sewn to the right breast. The sleeves and verso of the jersey feature Campbell’s number “51” in dual-layer stacked tackle twill with “Campbell” across the back on a matching affixed nameplate in single layer blue twill letters. Worn for just a single period of play, game wear is on the lighter side with only light marks to the crest and front and a pair of small material pulls on the left shoulder above the number “51”. The sleeves also have a few stains near the cuffs. A MeiGray patch numbered “E05930” resides over the interior hem and according to their population report, it lists the jersey as a “White Throwback - Winter Classic 1/1/08 (Period 2)” example. An LOA from MeiGray will accompany the jersey.
